Dear Representative Boyle, Senator Fetterman, and Senator McCormick,
President Trump’s threat to use “big force” against any protest of his birthday parade violates at least the First Amendment. Do not treat this as mere hyperbole or bluster given his “soft open” of martial law in LA. He wanted to have the military shoot protesters in 2020; Hegseth is no Esper and cannot be expected to stop Trump’s worst impulses.
You swore an oath to defend the Constitution. I urge you to publicly condemn any use of federal force against lawful protesters, investigate and hold accountable anyone who orders or carries out such actions, and protect—and strengthen—First Amendment safeguards for all Americans.
This is a clear constitutional crisis. So do your duty and ensure our right to peaceful protest is upheld.
